Christian Palestinians meet the Pope: “His intervention is needed to achieve peace and justice”
The delegation also met Elly Schlein: “She told us that she will do her best for peace”
Cronaca (Roma). Daoud Nassar, Palestinian citizen of Christian religion, for years on the front line of the non-violent resistance in the West Bank against the Israeli occupation. The Nassar family owns the last Palestinian farm in the Bethlehem area, the surrounding hills are occupied by illegal settler settlements. To avoid yet another appropriation of land from the family farm by Israel with the legal trick of declaring it “state land” when the Palestinians of the West Bank do not demonstrate ownership, Daoud started the Tent project twenty years ago of Nations, and in recent days on a visit to Italy he met the Pope and participated in the national congress of the ACLI in Rome. “After October 7th things got very complicated in our area – says Daoud – we couldn’t harvest olives because we were scared of the Israeli settlers. They also blocked our road and opened two roads on our property. We have hope that May His Holiness intervene to ensure that peace and justice can be achieved.” The delegation also had a meeting with the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein. “She was happy to have listened to this message that came from a Palestinian Christian – says Daoud – he said ‘we will do our best and do everything in our power to have justice, peace and the two-state solution'”.
