Gaza, Schmit (PES): “We’ll work for a political perspective and for a ceasefire”
“We have to support our defense industry., for the Ukrainians and also for us”
POLITICA (Roma). “Gaza? Full recognition of the state of Palestine needs the support of all states, so I’m not sure that is an achievable outcome. What is clear is that we have to call for a ceasefire as soon as possible, and I hope it happens before the European elections. We will work very hard to open a political perspective and give the Palestinian people not only in Gaza an option of Peace, dialogue and a two-state solution, as well as the Israelis. In the 90s I was involved in the peace process that led to the Oslo accords, and after all that great effort to destroy those accords were the members of Hamas and the Israeli far right. They killed the peace process between Israel and Palestine. The EU did a fantastic job with vaccines, we enabled all Europeans to get the covid vaccine, and that showed how when Europe works together you can quickly get results. We are in a time of emergency and we have to help Ukrainians defend themselves and that is why we have to support our defense industry. For the Ukrainians and also for us: we don’t know what the future holds and what will happen in the United States. It is not an arms race, it is done to defend ourselves.” PSE EU Commission candidate Nicolas Schmit said on the sidelines of the congress in Rome. (Nicolò Morocutti/alanews)
